Hsinchu, Taiwan, May 7, 2018 – Weltrend Semiconductor (TAIEX: 2436) today announced that its USB Power Delivery (PD) controller chipset, WT6633P, passed the certification tests for Qualcomm® Quick ChargeTM 4 and Quick Charge 4+. The WT6633P is the second chipset from Weltrend that has achieved Quick Charge 4 and Quick Charge 4+ certifications in addition to the previously announced WT6615F, offering designers more choices based on their design requirements.

In addition, two of Weltrend’s USB PD controller chipsets, WT6615F and WT6636F also passed the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) certification test for USB PD 3.0 with PPS (programmable power supply) at the recently held USB-IF Compliance Workshop event in Portland, Oregon.

Quick Charge 4 and Quick 4+ is the latest fast-charging specification from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, offering up to 20% faster charging, up to 30% greater efficiency, and running 5% cooler when compared to Quick Charge 3.0. Quick Charge 4 and Quick Charge 4+ also support USB PD and PPS, helping to standardize the capabilities of adaptors using these technologies, while being designed to deliver headline-making charging performance that provides five hours of talk time from just five minutes of charging, along with comprehensive safety features.

Weltrend’s USB PD controllers address a broad set of market segments for the emerging USB Type-C products including power adapters for USB Type-C based notebooks, 2-in-1s, tablets, and smartphones as well as USB Type-C based accessories such as car chargers, power banks, power strips, docking stations and dongles.

The WT6633P supports USB PD 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (PPS) specification as well as Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 or Quick Charge 4+ specifications, designed for USB Type-C power source applications. The PPS specification is typically used for Sink Directed Charge for the battery in mobile devices and is now rapidly becoming the preferred choice of smartphone OEMs for safe and rapid charging.

The WT6633P minimizes external components by integrating USB PD baseband PHY, Type-C detection, shunt regulator, voltage and current monitors, NMOS load switch driver and an 8-bit MCU to allow small form factor and low BOM cost. Wide operation voltage range (3V to 24V) supports PD 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (PPS) specification. One-Time-Programmable ROM is provided for program code and user configuration data.
