Enterprises are profit-making business units and should aim at making profits as long as they operate in a proper manner.
When a company makes profits, it will make positive contributions to shareholders, employees, the government and industry, which means that it has fulfilled its social responsibility to the fullest extent.
The reason we state clearly from the very beginning is as follows:
1. The capital of a company comes from its shareholders, and for publicly listed companies, this refer to the investing public. The purpose of shareholders' investment is to gain profit; therefore, the company should keep this in mind and strive to fulfill the trust placed in them by the shareholders. The company should not confuse priorities by treating the enterprise as a private property of the managers, nor should they seek personal fame or benefits through it.
2. A company not only pools capital but also uses social resources such as land, public facilities, and talent. If these resources are not utilized effectively to generate business performance, it results in a waste of societal resources. On the contrary, if the business performance is good, it will not only create high-quality employment opportunities, but also bring in tax revenue for the government, and contribute to the overall healthy development of national industries, with significant external benefits. Therefore, we believe that the greatest social responsibility of a company is to make good use of its resources and enhance its business performance to maximize the benefits for shareholders, employees, and the government.
3. Furthermore, integrity, honestly, no fraud、lawful and reasonable information disclosure, are the most basic responsibilities of a company. On the contrary, it is a great irony to do high-profile charity or donate generously that is not proportional to profits. The intention is to exchange ill-gotten wealth for good reputation or improper benefits, which is not worthwhile.
4. Last of all, what we want to add it is that, in theory, it should be the government's responsibility to provide disaster relief, poverty relief, and care for the disadvantaged. However, since government efforts are often inadequate, it is commendable and encouraging for companies to make appropriate donations when necessary, considering their capabilities and adhering to the principle of proportionality without seeking returns.
Otherwise, entrepreneurs should always care about the society and his/her nation, hoping to make a better society and a more progressive country. After all, business leaders hold some social resources, and their words and actions are influential. They should take the initiative to assist or even urge the nation and society to progress, which is also a proactive social responsibility that companies can fulfill.
