Hsinchu, Taiwan, September 19, 2018 – Weltrend Semiconductor (TAIEX: 2436) today announced the availability of its latest USB Power Delivery (PD) controller chipset, WT6635P, with reference design of power supply available from Power Integrations (NASDAQ: POWI) by pairing with its InnoSwtichTM3-Pro, a highly integrated digitally controllable off-line CV/CC QR flyback switcher IC.

The reference design, DER-702, is a 45W USB PD 3.0 with 3.3 V-16 V PPS power supply using InnoSwitch3-Pro INN3368C and Weltrend WT6635P USB PD controller. The design has successfully achieved compliance with USB PD 3.0 PPS standard at the recently held workshop in August, 2018 by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) in Portland, Oregon.

The WT6635P is a highly integrated USB Power Delivery (PD) controller that supports USB PD 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (PPS) specification and Qualcomm® Quick ChargeTM 4 or Quick Charge 4+ technologies, designed for USB Type-C power source applications. The PPS specification is typically used for Sink Directed Charge for the battery in mobile devices and is now rapidly becoming the preferred choice of smartphone OEMs for safe and rapid charging.

The WT6635P minimizes external components by integrating USB PD baseband PHY, Type-C detection and an 8-bit MCU to allow small form factor and low BOM cost. Low operation voltage (3V) supports PD 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (PPS) specification. One-Time-Programmable ROM is provided for program code and user configuration data.

Without the features of Constant Voltage (CV), Constant Current (CC), voltage/current monitoring and load switch control pin, WT6635P must pair with a CV/CC controller, equipped with dynamic Over Voltage/Current Protection (OVP/OCP) and load switch control pin, by I2C interface.

Prior to the certification of the entire power supply design, the WT6635P itself has passed the USB-IF certification tests for USB PD 3.0 with PPS and without PPS compliances for the chipset alone with TID of 1090015 and 1071057 respectively earlier this year.
