Weltrend Announces Availability of the WT6639F Dual-port USB PD and Qualcomm QC Controller
Hsinchu, Taiwan, November 16, 2020 – Weltrend Semiconductor (TWSE: 2436) today announced the release of the WT6639F dual-port USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and Qualcomm® Quick Charge controller.
The WT6639F is a highly integrated USB Power Delivery (USB PD) controller that supports USB PD 3.0 Programmable Power Supply specification and Qualcomm Quick ChargeTM 3+/4/4+/5 technologies. It is designed for USB Type-C® wall chargers and car chargers with multiple port solution. The multiple port solution offers a few design options, such as two USB Type-C ports (2C), two USB Type-C ports with two USB Std-A ports (2C2A), and etc.
The WT6639F minimizes external components by integrating two sets of USB PD baseband PHY, USB Type-C cable detection, Vconn power supply (for E-marked cable), voltage and current monitors, NMOS load switch driver and an 8-Bit MCU to allow small form factor and low BOM cost. Wide operation voltage range (3V to 24V) supports USB PD 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (PPS) specification.
The WT6639F is equipped with dual constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC) features and can use I2C interface or FB pin to communicate with buck/boost controllers to control the output voltage and current of USB PD and fast charge adapters/chargers. A Multi-Time-Programmable (MTP) ROM is provided for program code and user configuration data and for any firmware update during development phase.
The WT6639F offers both USB Type-C and USB Std-A cable, UFP device, detection to customize the output power of USB Type-C port once a cable insertion event is detected, hence fulfills the power sharing capacity for multiple port chargers.
